    The CMCC Foundation is a scientific research center on climate change and its interactions with the environment, the society, the world of business and policy makers. Our work aims to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment and develop strategies for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change.

    Our Division of Climate Simulations and Predictions (CSP) is hiring a talented, motivated and proactive post-doctoral research associate to work in the framework of the ASPECT (Adaptation-oriented Seamless Predictions of European ClimaTe) Horizon Europe project (2023–2027). The successful applicant will support the group operations by contributing to a variety of tasks, such as: (1) the production of climate predictions with different forecast horizons, (2) conduct research on predictability and model deficiencies, such as the signal-to-noise problem and systematic model biases, with a focus on extratropical air‒sea interaction processes and climatic extremes, (3) assisting the development of climate services. The main focus of the work will be on scientific analyses related to task (2).

    The job location is: CMCC, via C. Berti Pichat, 6/2, 40127, Bologna, Italy. The desired qualifications include: a PhD in climate sciences or related subjects; experience with analyzing climate model output; experience with Python and shell scripting in Unix; a very good knowledge of the English language; publications demonstrating quality research; experience with running climate models. Moreover, previous participation to European research projects will be valued. Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition. Some fiscal benefit could be applied for repatriated workers or foreign researches/professors, having the requirements defined by Dlgs 147/2015 (for repatriates) or Dl 78/2010 (for foreigners). We offer the opportunity to join our team through a temporary contract of 24 months starting from April 2023 (or earlier) with the possibility of extending the contract for another 24 months. Annual salary from 35.000 to 45.000 Euros, comprehensive of benefits, depending on qualification and experience.
